Monaco EV show embraces electric boats for 2019
EVERMonaco, the international conference of Electric Vehicles and Renewable Energies will recognize the growing importance and impact of electric marine propulsion at its 2019 gathering.
This is the 14th EVER assembly in the principality and Monaco electric boat startup Laneva (who unveil their first electric smart boat in the video below) is partnering with the show to launch a new topic: sustainable boating.
The EVER event encompasses a consumer exhibition, scientific forums and industry roundtables, and there will be two sustainable boating roundtables looking at new propulsion systems (electric, hydrogen, hybrid) and evaluating their impact on the design of the boats of tomorrow with real examples.
The Roundtables will be moderated by Kevin Desmond, author of the definitive e-boat book ‘Electric Boats and Ships: A History (on which our Throwback Thursdays are based) Participants in the first session – this Wednesday, May 8 – discuss new clean propulsion technologies and their associated sources of energy while the second session on Thursday looks more specifically at eco-design and how those technologies can be and are being integrated into pleasure boats and other consumer offerings.
Electric boat exhibitors at the show include Laneva as well as Sunwave electric solar boats from France and X Shore of Sweden. In the broader field of new marine propulsion there will also be booths from ABB – a new energy giant in all areas and one of the key innovators and suppliers of battery charging and other electric systems for large electric and hybrid vessels like ferries, and TYVA-moduloo, which focuses on lithium-ion batteries for electric mobility on land and the water.
One of the key sponsors is the Prince Albert 2 of Monaco Foundation, which the Prince founded in 2006 to focus on the protection of the environment and the promotion of sustainable development on a global scale. As EVER Chairman H.E. Mr Bernard Fautrier noted in his letter to attendees and participants: “Since his accession, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco has committed the Principality to steady progress in the field of clean mobility.”
Another partner, also sponsored by the Foundation, is the upcoming Monaco Solar & Energy Boat Challenge where solar, electric and other new energy boats compete in a variety of speed, agility and endurance races within Monaco’s Port Hercule harbour and out on the Mediterranean open sea. The event recently won the Environment Award from the UIM (international powerboating authority Union Internationale Motonautique).
