Pitch opportunity for CleanTech Blue Economy startups
A pitch competition for new CleanTech Blue Economy startups will be held at the GALAXIA Electric Boat Show in Lisbon Portugal form May 12 to 14..
The GALAXIA event will encompass all aspects of electric and new energy technologies, lifestyle and community with the competition being part of the conference segment. Headlining exhibitors at the show itself include X Shore all electric boats, Torqeedo electric boat motors and propulsion systems and global marine supercharging network Aqua superPower. GALAXIA is forecasting 20,000 attendees.

The idea of the “blue economy” was conceived at the 2012 Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development to entail the economic activities that create sustainable wealth from the world’s oceans and coasts.
The European Commission defines it as “All economic activities related to oceans, seas and coasts.” while the World Bank brings in the notion of “sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth, improved livelihoods, and jobs while preserving the health of the ocean ecosystem.”
Supported by the European Investment Fund (EIF), Portugal is one of the leaders in the mission to accelerate investment into the Blue Economy. There are several prominent VC funds active in the region, including Indico Capital – who recently launched a €50M ocean tech fund.
Lisbon hosted the United Nations Ocean Conference in June 2022 as well as the 10th annual World Ocean Summit taking place from now (February 27) to March 1.
CleanTech Blue Economy startups on May 12
The May GALAXIA Interstella Conference is being held in partnership with the Marina de Lagos and the first day will focus on promoting a dialogue of protecting the Blue Economy and sustainability of our oceans.
The Conference as a whole is designed as an interactive forum for electric boat manufacturers, industry professionals, infrastructure providers, government officials, and students to “share best practices, identify barriers and foster a community of working relationships”.
Yachting Ventures is a global startup hub for the leisure marine and yachting industries, providing the network, education, and opportunities that founders need to scale and raise investment.
As part of the Interstella Conference, Yachting Ventures (YV) will be organizing and providing a space for 4-5 startups to showcase their CleanTech solutions to a panel of investors and industry leaders.
Pitch winners receive €4,700 in value
YV is a startup hub for the leisure marine and yachting industries allover the world providing the network, education and opportunities that founders in the space need to raise investment and scale. Founder and CEO Gabriella Richardson was a panellist at the recent Blue Innovation Dock of the Boot Düsseldorf show, speaking on financing innovation and start-up disruption.
The pitching competition will be judged by national and international investors, who are experts in the sector and are actively seeking investment opportunities in this space.
The winning team will receive significant press coverage, a free stand at GALAXIA Electric Boat Show 2024 (worth €599) and a free Marketing / Brand consultation (worth €4,999). The deadline for applications is 31st March 2023. Entrants are expected to have a refined business idea with some level of customer validation and annual turnover of less than €2M.
