Voting round ended July 26.

Gustave Trouvé is the inventor of the outboard boat motor, an electric motor that he used to propel his boat ‘Le Téléphone’ down the Seine River in Paris in 1881. “The Gussies” – the international awards exclusively for electric boats – are named in his honour. FINALISTS

The 2021 Awards launched on May 26, the 140th anniversary of Trouvé’s historic trip down the Seine, with the opening of nominations. Voting began June 15 and these Finalists have been selected through a combination of online public voting and weighted ballots cast by an International Panel of representatives from: Electric Boat Association (UK), Electric Boat Association of America, The Electric Boat Association of Greece, Swiss Association for Zero Emission Boats, Electric Boat Association of Canada, Alternate Fuels Committee: Inland Waterways International, and Venice Agenda 2028.

The eventual winners of the 2021 Gussies Awards will be selected from these finalists by the same formula of public and panel voting.

There are 5 categories of electric boats:

  • Electric Boats Up To 8m / 26ft*
  • Electric Boats Up To 8m / 26ft*
  • Electric Boats Designed for Paying Passengers*
  • Customized / DIY Electric Boats
  • Electric Sailboats

In the three categories designated with an asterisk* there are sub-categories: boats already in Production and boats in Development.

Voting closed at midnight, EST, July 26, 2021.

Winners will be announced on July 27, 2021, the 119th anniversary of the death of Gustave Trouvé in 1902.

Thanks for this comment, Gawain. This is only the second year of The Gussies, so it is still a bit of a learning curve 🙂 The awards will continue to evolve and discussions are already underway for the categories to be adjusted and possibly expanded for next year.
