Pink electric boat to help aid cancer research
Windermere Quays Electric Boat Hire in the UK’s Lake District has launched an all pink, all electric boat that will be rented out at a higher fee with proceeds going to cancer research.
The boat itself is an 8-10 passenger Fantail 217 made by the Canadian Electric Boat Company. The Windermere rental shop has a couple of Fantails in its fleet of e-boats and decided to adapt one to contribute to the cause. Local MP TIM Farron (seen poking his head out of the boat on its maiden voyage), said “This is a fantastic initiative from Windermere Quays.”
Managing Director Grahame Armer told the Cumbria Crack website “It’s our way of not only bringing something unique to Windermere but importantly of giving back to the wider community.”
Each hourly rental of the boat will contribute £10 to the Cancer Research UK charity. Windermere Quays has pledged to match the £5 per hour added to the usual hourly rental fee of £95.
Mr. Armer expects the boat “will raise some thousands of pounds each year.” In 2018 Cancer Research UK spent £423 million (US 550 M) on research in preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer.
Lake Windermere is England’s largest lake, about 5 square mies in area, and the Lake District is one of the most popular destinations in the country for both visitors and British residents.
The Fantail 217s are made for a relaxing way to enjoy it all, cruising at a leisurely 8 knots / 5 mph with cushioned seats surrounding a central table outfitted, of course, with drink holders. The Windermere version is outfitted with rose-coloured decor and the breast cancer ribbon logo on its hard top canopy.
