Mythbusters builds an electric jet outboard
If you’ve ever seen the show Mythbusters you know that Jamie Hyneman – the one with the beret and the serious mechanical/electrical/chemical/everything-science knowledge puts together some pretty crazy contraptions.
In this old video (from 2012!) he shows how he took an outboard gas-powered jet motor and converted it to electric.
The reason? Well other than just wanting to do interesting things, the Mythbusters crew often had shoots on the water, and the sound of gas internal combustion engines created sound problems.So Jamie rigged this unit up.
Aside from it being very cool seeing how he put this together, when he talks about the batteries it shows just how far electric propulsion has come in just a few short years.
