Green Tech Boat Show expands for year 2
From electric boats and motors to an autonomous waste collector inspired by sharks, the Green Tech Boat Show 2022 presented by MDL Marinas is a strong indicator of the rising interest in electric boating and all technologies that reduce the environmental impact of water activities.
Admission is free and tickets to the show, being held June 17 and 18 in Plymouth, England, can be reserved on the MDL website.
The Show is an initiative coming out of MDL’s Green Strategy Mission to “become the UK’s most sustainable marina group, developing a culture of environmental awareness and care amongst its customers and teams.” As part of that commitment they have installed close to 1,000 solar panels across their 20 marinas, 5 of which are also being outfitted with high speed electric boat chargers from AquasuperPower.
Green Tech Boat Show Innovation Hub
Aqua will be among the more than two dozen exhibitors at the show, being held at MDL’s Queen Anne’s Battery (QAB) location in Plymouth. More than just zero-emission boats, the Green Tech Boat Show is dedicated to highlighting all manner of eco-friendly boating products.
RanMarine Technology will be demonstrating WasteShark, an autonomous surface vessel modelled on the filter feeding of sharks to remove floating plastic waste from waterways. ARC Marine manufactures Reef Cubes, the only carbon-neutral, plastic-free solution for marine habitat restoration in the world. EcoMotus wil be showing a catalytic hydrogen system designed to reduce emissions from fossil fuel motors.
The exhibitors will be arranged along the docks of the marina, with the core of the event being the Innovation Hub, sponsored by the University of Plymouth. The Hub will have a full lineup of presentations over the course of Friday and Saturday exploring different ways that the marine industry can reduce its carbon emissions and achieve net zero.
The line-up of speakers includes the INdIGO project (Innovative Fishing Gear for Ocean), explaining how to reduce marine plastic pollution through the development of biodegradable fishing equipment and LIFE Recreation ReMEDIES, a four-year marine conservation partnership project focussing on the importance of safeguarding seabed habitats for a clean and healthy ocean.
Electric boats on display
The Green Tech Boat Show provides a chance for visitors to take a look at and get hands-on experience with some of the models Plugboats has recently written about.
Pixii boats, who completed a successful £350,000 crowdfuning project a few weeks ago, will be showcasing their all-electric 7.5 metre Pixii SP800 with an estimated top speed of 40 knots and a towing eye for water skiing or wakeboarding.
The world’s first fully electric RIB, the Pulse 63 from RS Electric Boats will also be on display. Built using sustainable materials wherever possible, the eco-friendly Pulse 63’s interior deck, floor, console, engine box and hatches are all made from recycled carbon fibre, with a recycled PET core. The Pulse has a 40kW electric drive with a bank of lithium-ion batteries that provide a range of 100 nautical miles at 5 knots (≈10 km/h)
The show will also provide the first look at the Classic 7 picnic cruiser from JR Yachts and Silent Yachting that can be configured with either a 4kW or 8kW motor offering top speeds of between 6- 10 knots (≈12-18 km/h).
VITA Yachts will be there, fresh off their first place finish in the e-Ballerina segment at Venice’s e-Regatta, as will Optima Electric Boats with information about their unique design that merges the efficiency and stability of a multi-hull within the beam of a mono-hull
Electric motors: outboard, inboard, pod, saildrive
ePropulsion will be at the Show, fresh off the announcement last week that the parent company has purchased a majority stake in ePropulsion UK, whose headquarters are just along the south England coast from QAB.
Vetus will be demonstrating their expanded line of electric propulsion options and Remigo will be on hand with their innovative 1 kW outboard design for dinghys. Visitors can also check out see the range of Lynch ‘pancake’ electric motors.
Lynch is also represented on ‘Bounty’s End’, a replica of the 23-foot wooden launch used by Captain Bligh for his epic 4000-mile voyage of survival following the infamous mutiny. One of Britain’s most accomplished yachtsmen, Conrad Humphreys, installed an 8kW regenerative Lynch on the meticulously recreated vessel and will be speaking on how the old can be converted to the new.
Green Innovator Award
For 2022 MDL has added the industry-only Clean Marine Innovation Showcase, a forum for government, researchers and businesses working towards a cleaner marine environment to come together to exchange ideas, highlight new innovations and network with like-minded organizations.
Also new to the Green Tech Boat Show is the Green Innovator Award. The award aims to shine a light on products and services, from both start-ups and established companies, which are truly pioneering in sustainable innovation and design. Visitors to the show are invited to vote and the 2022 Green Innovator Award will be presented to the winner on Friday in the Innovation Hub.
For the full line up and schedule and to reserve free tickets, visit the Green Tech Boat Show page on the MDL Marinas website.

Our Mission
To reduce the impact of boating on the marine environment through the development of an all-electric and integrated global ecosystem of marine superchargers.
AQUA superPower is the first fully marinised dockside network of fast chargers for electric boats.
Each station provides AC and DC charging with a current maximum power output of 150 kW, allowing DC compatible powerboats to rapidly recharge and extend their autonomy.
AQUA has developed the first supercharger specifically engineered and rated for use in marine environments.
Built to IP65 standards and constructed using Hydro CIRCAL recycled aluminium, superPower is a revolutionary and environmentally-conscious marine charging solution.
Electric boat motor for sailboats
ePropulsion electric outboards enable one-design sailboats to leave and return to the marina quick, silent and maneuverable. The hydrogenation and solar charging also allow sailors to travel further and sail sustainably.
Electric outboards for fishing boatsIdeal for both freshwater and saltwater, ePropulsion electric outboard motors are perfect for jon boats, aluminum fishing boats, bass boats and fishing pontoons.
Electric outboards for work boats
The electric outboard motor has a simple motor structure with much fewer components than gas engines. The quiet and exhaust-free experience also makes passengers comfortable onboard.
Electric outboards for dinghy and tenders
Our electric outboard motors make your boat trips comfortable, quiet and exhaust-free. Our maintenance-free designs save you time, money, and headaches.
China
Established in 1990, we are innovators and leaders in the design and manufacturing of highly efficient and reliable electric motors suitable for marine, vehicle, robotic, industrial, hybrid and traction industry.
Mastervolt offers integrated electrical systems which generate, store, convert or manage alternating and direct current. We realise this by using high-quality technology in digital switching, energy storage by means of Lithium Ion batteries, and chargers/inverters that are both efficient and user-friendly. All these products communicate in the same language via the MasterBus platform. This ensures that everyone working with a Mastervolt system can always see the right information related to each product in the system. Onboard, at the yard or on remote, system analyses are always easy to perform. This ensures a carefree and reliable electrical power system which enables sailors to enjoy having electricity onboard without any concerns.
