New Godfrey electric pontoon boat – The Mighty G
One of the fastest growing boat categories in the US is welcoming a new model with the launch of the Godfrey electric pontoon – ‘The Mighty G’. Pontoon boats are ideally suited for electric motors. People love ‘toons’ because they are looking to spend time socializing or fun fishing and electric propulsion makes it more enjoyable by taking away the noise and smell of gas burning motors.
With an electric motor they can talk without yelling, or listen to their favourite music without having to blast it over the roar of the motor, or enjoy a drink or meal without exhaust fumes getting in the way of their taste buds.
Godfrey electric pontoon has lower centre of gravity
Godfrey is one of the top builders of pontoon boats and is widely known for quality of construction and detailing. The ‘Mighty G’ is the first pontoon with an electric motor as an option in their online Boat Builder (their Sweetwater line can be ordered ‘electric engine ready’).
“With electric motors gaining traction with current boaters and those looking for their first pontoon, our product team designed the Mighty G with electric propulsion in mind right from the start – it wasn’t an afterthought or an add-on,” said Ben Duke, president of Marine, Polaris. “The teams incorporated design elements to support maximizing the efficiency of the platform, such as using full-sized tubes to enable ideal flotation levels and minimize drag in the water, making Mighty G optimal for customers looking for an electric pontoon.”

With a length of 15-feet, 7 inches and a 7′ 6″ beam, the Mighty G has plenty of room for up to seven passengers. A shortened deck height off those full-sized tubes creates a stiffer chassis that lowers the pontoon’s centre of gravity and helps contribute to efficiency and added performance.
It is available in two models optimized for either cruising (Mighty G 1476 C) or fishing (Mighty G 1476 F). The boats are available to be ordered now with delivery in 2023.
Torqeedo outboards are the motor of choice for Godfrey and the Mighty G can be ordered with the Cruise 3.0, Cruise 6.0 or Cruise 10.0. (approximately 6, 9.9 and 20 HP).
The Cruise systems all have built-in GPS with on-board computer and display with speed and input power, state of charge and remaining range, and have the option to include TorqLink, the electronics communication system developed for the Torqeedo Deep Blue higher powered outboards.
Standard features for the Mighty G include bench-style seating, a telescoping EZ Climb Ladder, sound by Clarion and a fishing station with rod holders and tackle storage (standard on the Fish model, an option on the Cruise model).
Full 360-degree RGB under deck lighting is available, as well as an optional sunshade for protection from the sun and a cell phone mount at the helm station.
Godfrey has also released the new Nightshade boat cover as standard on both models. The efficient and easy to use cover is trailerable up to 70 mph and provides convenient access to the boat when deployed.
Pontoon boat sales expected to double
A study by Stratview Research shows that pontoons represent about 20% of the US recreational boat market. Sales of pontoons have increased between 3% to 4% annually over the past couple of years and really hit their stride when people were looking for things to do with the family and groups of close friends during the pandemic. The research says that the pontoon boat market is expected to surpass $4 billion by 2028, up from $2.13 billion in 2021.
When you couple that with the growth of electric propulsion, it seems like a winning combination. Allied Market Research predicted in June of this year that global electric boat sales will triple by 2031, and other market analysts have similar figures.
