Guide to Electric Boats Exhibitors: Boot Dusseldorf 2023
The world’s largest indoor boat show – boot Düsseldorf, better known as simply ‘Boot’ – begins tomorrow (January 21) and the number of electric boats exhibitors at the 2023 edition is by far the largest number ever – almost 75 booths that will be dedicated to, or at least featuring, an electric boat or electric boat motor.
The last in-person Boot was in January 2020, just before the events that upended the world, so the 2021 and 2021 versions were held virtually. It is safe to say that the big show is back with a vengeance and is expecting upwards of a quarter of a million people to visit.
The electric boat world has grown enormously since the last in person Düsseldorf event. Here is a guide to some of the things that will be on display.
Blue Innovation Dock (BID)
The Blue Innovations Dock (BID) is an area for Trade Visitors where seminars and discussions will be hosted on developing and increasing sustainable solutions for everything on and about the water: boats big and small, water sports, marinas and more.
Topics include sustainable materials and boat building processes, future fuels, financing innovation and start-ups and a Leaders Dialogue where business and political leaders will exchange views on how to cooperate to create viable sustainable industries and corporations.
Groupe Beneteau has been busy in the world of electric propulsion with a number of their brands: the electrified Beneteau First 44 sailing yacht, Delphia mindful cruising boats and Four Winns HE2. Aqua superPower creates virtual electric boat charging network.
A good sign of the growth of electric boats is this initiative by global marine fast charge operator Aqua superPower in which they have joined forces with top e-marine industry partners at Boot to create a virtual electric boat charging network across the show.
X Shore, RS Electric Boats, Axopar, Evoy, Vita Yachts, and Delphia – as well as zero emission and sustainable yachting consultancy ZEASY – will all be hosting Aqua superPower marine fast chargers on their stand. The purpose is to jointly promote zero emissions electric boating and demonstrate that the ecosystem and infra-structure exist to make the urgent transition away from liquid carbon fuels.

Arcona Yachts
The Arcona 415Z (Zero Emissions) makes her world premier at Boot Dusseldorf, with electric propulsion by Oceanvolt’s Servoprop 15kW system, with variable pitch propeller and hydro regeneration. It has a 23.2kWh* battery pack as standard. Arcona says that the 15kW electric motor is the equivalent of a 50hp diesel engine on their 40-43ft yachts. and that some of the sailors already using Oceanvolts in other yachts have seen seen the hydro regeneration start when the yacht is sailing at a speed as low as 3.3knots. A-Yachts
The “a33 Neu” is undergoing a facelift and upgrade 4 years after its introduction. The engine range will be expanded from the previous diesel to a hybrid and an electric engine. In the electric version there will also be the version “a33 solar”, where a walkable photovoltaic element on the forecastle permanently supplies the batteries with electricity. The carbon hull and carbon rod rig, hydraulic mainsheet and downhaul and high ballast ratio also remains. A version with tiller is being developed which will be presented in the 2022 season. Axopar
Axopar is one of the fastest-growing boat brands in the world. The success derives from the “one boat, one world” concept – boats that are multi-functional and accessible for the many, anywhere around the world. They have teamed up with Evoy to create an electric boat with Evoy’s Storm 300+ hp electric outboard motor. Designed in Finland, produced in Poland, showcased at the Cannes Yachting Festival, the Axopar 25 Electric Prototype did 25 nautical miles in 25 knots from Cannes to Saint Tropez. Contest 49CS and 50CS
Contest Yachts is back at the Dusseldorf Boat Show 2023 with the joint world-premiere of two brand-new yachts, the aft cockpit Contest 49CS and centre cockpit Contest 50CS. The 49CS is the first twin aft cabin Contest at this length and both the 49CS and 50CS are Contest’s first yachts with the option of all-electric propulsion, uniquely engineered with a completely new Torqeedo and BMW based system delivering true bluewater range. Delphia
Delphia Yachts continues to expand their selection of ‘mindful cruising’ boats with the all-electric Delphia 10 Lounge, the third model in their Delphia 10 line. The new Lounge model is the third in the Delphia 10 line. It was preceded by the Sedan and Lounge Top version. Meant for what Delphia refers to as ‘mindful cruising’, the Lounge open boat design enhances the day trip experience for inland lakes canals but also has a fully functional lower deck for overnight stays. EWOL
The EnergyMatic Propeller has been developed mainly, but not exclusively, for electric propulsion boats, or with hydraulic transmission or alternator connected to the shaft in order to better recharge the batteries while sailing and without having to start the engine. The company touts this as ‘A decidedly innovative product dedicated to electric boats of today and tomorrow or to boats with diesel engines that still want to be able to recharge their batteries at will in some phases of sailing.’ Hall 10 | A65
Fischer Panda
Fischer Panda is launching their electric 5kW shaft drive and ePanda series at Boot, part of the new ePanda Series 8.0, – consisting of ePanda Drive, ePanda Power Unit and ePanda Control Unit.
The 5 kW shaft drive will be the first product in the Series to hit the market. The air-cooled drive, that forms a fixed unit with the inverter, is brushless, sensorless and features permanent magnet technology. This makes it a low-maintenance, extremely efficient drive and weighing only 22 kg. Hall 10 | A39
Four Winns
The first electric boat from Groupe Beneteau’s Four Winns brand, the H2e, will be at Boot, showing off the Visions Marine Technologies E-Motion 180E outboard package. Known for manufacturing sophisticated and elegant bowriders and deck boats, this is an exciting combination of boat and motor. The E-Motion 180E integrates a complete optimized powertrain system with battery pack, controller, chargers and everything needed to replace a fossil fuel outboard and keep the performance – while getting rid of the noise and exhaust fumes. Garda Solar
Garda is best known for the GOGO Pedal-E, which combines a whimsical and fun pedal boat with a 250W electric motor. At Boot they are introducing the Microwatt, a more traditional boat but with a contemporary Italian design. With its 2 kW motor, the Microwatt can transport up to 7 people with an autonomy of up to 8 hours. It was created mainly for tourist rental at hotels and resorts, but is also very suitable for private buyers and families. Hall 4 | F22
Highfield Boats
This is the world debut of the Highfield Classic E330 powered by the New Zealand company ZeroJet’s MKII Jet drive system. Highfield points out that beyond the general benefits of electric over combustion, electric jets also have the feature of no exposed propeller for safer use in the water, a lower profile so the RIB beaches easily and skims over shallow ecosystems and lighter weight. The ZeroJet jet pump and compact electric motor weigh 50% less than a comparable outboard motor. Hall 9 / C24
Huracan
Argon Light is an evolution of the Argon Speed outboard, with reduced weight and size for applications in smaller boats than the original Arcon outboards. Argon Light is available in two versions: a first one with a support plate and an electric trim; and a second one with a lift made ad-hoc that can move the motor vertically, but keeping its angle unchanged with respect to the transom. Magonis
Magonis will be showing their Wave e-550 at Boot along with the new ECU (Electronic Control Unit) developed by its R&D Department. The ECU records data from battery, motor and charger in real time and connects the inputs via a CAN bus/data protocol which communicates via a satellite to their main network. The benefit for the boat owner? The information can be viewed on the Magonis smartphone app to provide the instant information the driver needs and remote maintenance management can be carried out wherever the boat is situated. Molabo / Capoforte
Molabo has developed their 50 kW ISCAD V50 inboard motor system with a safe-touch 48 kWh (8 x 6 kWh modules) lithium-ion battery bank that has been adopted by boatyard Capoforte for their first electric boat – the SQ240i. The ISCAD V50 delivers impressive performance with a continuous output of 50 kW. On the Capoforte SQ240i it has a measured top speed of 24.5 kn (45.4 km/h) and acceleration to 11 kn in just 1.7 seconds. Hall 3 | B52
Nimbus
The hull of the Nimbus 305 Coupé has been developed and optimized for speeds from 0 to 22 knots, delivered by Torqeedo all-electric motors. The hydro-dynamic shape of the hull means that the boat has no planing threshold at all. Mats Jacobsson, Product Development Manager at Nimbus, says “For the 305 Coupé we have designed a hull that rides comfortably throughout the entire speed range. In practice, the 305 has no real planing threshold and returns low energy consumption at all speeds.” Hall 4 | A56 – A62
Propel
Propel is at Boot with both their outboard and inboard motors with AFT – Axial Flux Technology. Axial flux describes an electric motor configuration that is flat – like a pancake – instead of cylindrical like most motors. To be simplistic, it means that the magnetic forces are aligned parallel to the axle of the motor (hence ‘axial’) instead of radiating out from the axis, which is called radial flux. Axial flux typically provides more torque per volume. Propel has their motors at the show as well as accompanying batteries 6.8 kWh, 10.2 kWh and 13.6 kWh. Hall 10 / D62
RAD Propulsion
RAD introduced their new electric outboards at METSTRADE last November and are showing them here in Dusseldorf. Their RAD 40 is designed for use in RIBs and powerboats, offering 40kW of continuous power. The most immediately striking feature of the RAD 40 is the compact design, in which the motor remains behind the transom when tilted and doesn’t intrude onto the vessel’s deck space. Hall 10 | C61
Virtue Yachts
Virtue is another company teaming with Evoy’s high power electric outboards. The Virtue V10 hassolar panels on the fixed sunroof to support the main charging system and the Swedish Petestep hull technology minimizes drag and motion tomaxi mize efficiency and smoothness when cruising the waters at planing speeds. It reduces energy consumption up to 35%, enabling smaller engines for the same driving experience. Hall 3 | B32
VITA Yachts
Vita is one of the pioneers of electric sport noats and will have both the 10.5 metre Lion and the 7m Seal at the show. Both boats have DC high voltage fast charging capabilities built in. Powered by VITA Power’s latest generation all electric V4 propulsion system, the Lion incorporates proprietary throttle and touchscreen technology to deliver a cruising speed of 22 knots and a top speed of over 35 knots. Windelo
Windelo catamarans are built with the aim of building boats that work in harmony with nature, and reducing their environmental impact by 50%. The lightweight designs use recycled and bio-sourced materials, and electric motors are essential to achieving their goals, coupled with hydro generation, solar panels and wind turbines, At the same time, it is also vital to have a good cruising range.
