This is the 50th anniversary of the Newport International Boat Show (NIBS), one of the largest and most prestigious boat shows in the United States, stretching out over more than thirteen acres of historic Newport.

There are many more powerboat exhibitors than sailing boats, and unfortunately not a lot of e-boat manufacturers yet – although the two ends of the electric boat time spectrum are both exhibiting: Duffy Electric Boats, established 1970, and Sweden’s X Shore, which launched its first model in 2018.

Genoa Boat Show logoGenoa Salone Nautica
Thursday September 16 – Tuesday September 21
Genoa, Italy

The Genoa Boat Show is one of the largest events on the Mediterranean with over 200,000 square metres of display area on land and sea. It is very Italy-centric, and is proud of being ‘the world’s number one showcase for the very best the Made in Italy brand has to offer’. For whatever reason, most of the Italian electric boat builders and cantiere are not at this year’s show, but there are still a few e-boat related companies exhibiting from other countries. One of the intriguing made in Italy companies is H2boat and its hydrogen fuel cell and storage system for power yachts and sailboats.

Monaco Yacht Show
Wednesday September 22 – Saturday September 25
Monaco

While the Monaco Yacht Show is almost synonymous with ‘superyacht’, there are also exhibitors for those looking for something a little bit smaller. And contrary to popular perception, anyone can attend the show with the purchase of a daily pass, although it is not inexpensive: €500.

Whether you are able to attend the show or not, it is exciting to see that electric exhibitors are on the increase. There were only 32 yachts total on display at the first show, in 1991, and now there are these 15 electric boat and motor companies for 2021. We look forward to the day when electric will be the norm and not the exception!
