New super quiet electric fishing boat

As anyone who fishes is aware, sounds from a boat can make fish nervous enough that they may not be in the mood for eating. Which is why anglers go to great pains to have everything involved in fishing be as quiet as possible. It’s one of the reasons electric trolling motors like those made by MinnKota and Motor Guide are so popular.

Now boat manufacturer Correct Craft is getting ready to unveil a fishing boat designed from the proverbial stem to stern to be as quiet as possible.

The unveiling, suitably enough, will take place at the catch-and-release format Battle of the Bass Fishing Tournament at Camp Mack Resort in Lake Wales, Florida, May 11. Watershed Innovations, a division of Correct Craft that focuses on sustaining and disruptive technologies, is the sponsor of the tournament, and was instrumental in putting together the team that developed it.

Watershed is looking at disruptive technologies in boating

Fourteen graduating senior students from the University of Central Florida will reveal the results of their year-long project applying computational fluid dynamics and advanced electric propulsion technologies to create a lightweight boat to maximize range that is also ultra-quiet to help catch more fish.

All proceeds from the event will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay, a mentoring program for at-risk kids to help them reach their potential.

Watershed was started about a year ago by Correct Craft as a new subsidiary to specifically identify, evaluate and implement new opportunities and technologies as the world looks to new propulsion methods. Part of its mandate is to leverage cross pollination by bringing together talented people within the company with external resources such as universities and research centres.

SeaArk specializes in flat bottom fishing boats ‘jon boats’ and has the #1 Catfishing Boat

On the quiet aluminum fishing boat project, Watershed brought the students from UCF’s Engineering and Computer Science together with engineers and designers from SeaArk Boats (a Correct Craft subsidiary), Torqeedo, the German electric boat motor manufacturer and SeaDek, the premier maker of marine non-skid surface products.

This project will also be showcased on April 19, alongside 150 other projects made by graduating seniors at the UCF College of Engineering and Computer Science’s Senior Design Showcase on UCF’s main campus.
