Ingenity debuts new electric boat drive, unique battery
A new electric boat drive with a unique battery especially designed for high demand marine propulsion is being debuted at the Miami Boat show by Watercraft Innovation under the brand name ‘Ingenity’.
We first heard about this at the Seattle Boat Show when Greg Melloon, President of Nautique ski and wakeboard boats, did an Instagram video with a quick overview of an electric Nautique 210, one of the company’s most popular wakeboard boats.
At that time he said: “This is a Nautique 210, it’s been one of our famous models over the years, and this one in particular is 100% electric. It represents a prototype of technology that we’ve been developing over several years, in order to make electric boats a possibility. So, we’re happy to show it off today, it’s one of the first viewings of this boat in public, we’re excited about the future.”
Now the details of the exciting new electric boat drive are on show at the Miami Boat Show, along with the unique battery.
With 124 kWh of stored energy, the Ingenity battery allows for 2 to 3 hours of typical watersports use and can be recharged in as little as 90 minutes. It has cells from top tier suppliers and the latest in cooling and safety technology. The battery management system is designed for thousands of cycles which equates to many years of use powering a boat.
New electric boat drive and battery address key concerns
Sean Marrero, President of Watershed Innovation (Ingenity’s parent company), said, “Electric is the propulsion of the future, but no battery in the world could meet the high-power requirements for a watersports boat, fit in the available space, and be used twice in the same day…so we designed our own. It is the key to everything customers care about: safety, reliability, and the time to run and charge.”
Ingenity is also launching a full new website to show off the new electric boat drive and battery.Previously, there was just a description of the company’s goals at the address. One of the first things to check out on the site is the FAQs section. (and there are lots of frequently asked questions about electric boats and batteries!) One of the questions is about the integration of the pack:
- Q: Is the electric drive system integrated into the helm?
Yes, the system is fully integrated, and the user experience is designed to feel similar to its gas counterpart.
Along with the website, there are new @IngenityElectric pages on Facebook and Instagram.
Both Watershed Innovation and Ingenity are subsidiaries of Correct Craft, one of the oldest boating companies in the United States, dating back to 1925. In the past two years they have made a number of acquisitions and are obviously keen on the outlook for electric boats in the future.
Bright outlook for electric boats
The Ingenity purchase was made in 2018 and demonstrated their vision: “ORLANDO, FL (July 25, 2018) — Today, Correct Craft announced its newest acquisition, an electric boat drive system, Ingenity P220, that originated in Austria. The acquisition is a result of Correct Craft’s Watershed Innovation initiative and will help prepare Correct Craft’s Pleasurecraft Engine Group and the company’s boat brands for the inevitable future beyond internal combustion engines.”
Today’s announcement and the debut in Miami is the result of that acquisition and a lot of new work by the crew at Watercraft and Ingenity in the US.
