Evoy 225kW electric outboard takes Cannes by ‘Storm’
Norway’s Evoy hit the Cannes Yachting Festival this week with the prototype of its 225kW electric outboard system ‘Storm’ – the most powerful electric outboard ever put on water. The company also announced partnerships with three major boatbuilders: Axopar, Goldfish and Iguana.
Storm is just one model in the line of 4 electric motor systems Evoy is developing. The Breeze (90kW / 120 hp) is in the market now with the Gale (150kW / 200 hp) slated for introduction in 2023. The largest and most powerful drive train, the Hurricane (300kw / 400hp) will be available in 2024. All models come in inboard and outboard versions.
Axopar
One of the boat manufacturer partnership is with Finland’s Axopar one of the fastest-growing boat brands in the world. The success derives from the “one boat, one world” concept. It stands for boats that are multi-functional and accessible for the many, anywhere around the world.
At Cannes they showcased an Evoy electric version of their Axopar 25. Jan-Erik Viitala, Founding Partner of Axopar, said “Axopar is excited to join forces with innovators that challenge the status quo of the industry. Our partnership with Evoy is a perfect example of two great companies, on a joint mission, to expand the boating community and offer new ways of mobility for the future.”

Iguana amphibious boats
Another major partnership is with the French brand Iguana Yachts. Iguana was started in 2008 by engineer Antoine Brugidou, who was determined to prove the practicality of making boats able to land and launch on their own. It is now recognized as one of the most innovative and successful company in the marine industry.
The Iguana Mobility System, which now has patents in 8 major economic regions, offers a way of incorporating a set of tracks into a boat’s hulls, without compromising hydrodynamic properties.
The project with Evoy is their first fully electric amphibious craft. The boat will be powered by the Storm and is expected to reduce energy consumption by 50% thanks to retractable foils. The vessel is scheduled to be on (and off!) the water in the spring of 2023.
Evoy Explorer
Last but not least, Evoy is also launching a partnership with Goldfish Boats, which makes high performance heavy duty RIB type boats for commercial use that are based on their designs for the military.
The Evoy Explorer, a Goldfish 9 model powered by an inboard Hurricane with sterndrive and a 126 kWh lithium battery recently clocked a speed of 57.7 knots. It also completed a very successful 250+ nautical mile journey along the coast of Norway to show off the capabilities of electric power.
The Hurricane will be the system in a series of electric Goldfish X10 (single installation) and 43 Ocean (twin installation) boats that are also set to be delivered next spring.
Evoy has been working extensively with these partners and other players in boat building, commercial boating, tourism, aquaculture, rescue boats, ports, and infrastructure. Their systems are built for fast and powerful boats between 20 and 50 ft and the goal is to make the shift to electric boating a reality for workboats, commercial passenger boats and the recreational market.
On completion of a funding round of 7.3 million Euros this past May, Stavøstrand said “This is an incredibly important milestone in our path to make boating irresistible, eliminating emissions and building a great global brand. With the strongest electric motors for boats in the market, mixed with an unprecedented data driven ecosystem connected 24/7, Evoy will now set a new standard in the boating industry.”
