Equity crowdfunding push for Oceanvolt e-motors
UPDATE: July 2019: The investment round is closed with Oceanvolt achieving investments of over €2 million and reaching over 3 times its goal of 600,00 Euros.
It’s quite a week for Oceanvolt – their partner company Q-Yachts is the official yacht of Amber Lounge at the Monaco F1 Grand Prix and is showing off the marvels of clean and silent propulsion by supplying e-tender transfers to celebrity yachts.
Oceanvolt was started in 2004 by Janne Kjellman, a three time Volvo Ocean Race participant who understood the necessity of motors for sailing boats but wanted a quiet and non-fossil-fuel alternative.
They now have a complete range of electric drives used in sailboats, motorboats, harbour ferries and other commercial vessels as well as an interface that can connect any Oceanvolt system to the internet and be monitored and managed in real-time. Their SD Saildrive won the 2013 Pittman Innovation Award from SAIL magazine and their patented variable pitch Servoprop won a 2017 DAME Award for Machinery and Propulsion.
Along the way Oceanvolt has built a worldwide network of yacht designers and architects, electric boatbuilders and other partners, one of whom is the Voyager 480 all-electric Virgin Islands charter boat. They supplied the Conrad Coleman team with the Saildrive for his 2016 Vendee Globe challenge and are working with Alex Thomson Racing for the 2020 round-the-world race.
